I hate to disappoint you, but if you’ve been doing hundreds of sit ups and crunches a day hoping to get that flat stomach you’ve always wanted, you’ve been going about it the wrong way. In fact, running and walking are the best exercises that you can do flatten that tummy. That’s why when I see people struggling to do hundreds of sit ups, I feel sorry for them because they’re doing it in vain. There are some stomach exercises that are beneficial; however, they play a really small role in helping you achieve complete six pack abs bliss.

One of the most popular misconceptions in fitness is the fact that you can eliminate fat around a certain muscle group by exercising that particular muscle group. This is a popular myth that many of us know well and it’s called the “spot reduction myth.” Thanks to gender and genetics, our bodies store a certain amount of fat in some areas. It’s no secret that the main problem areas for women are the stomach, hips, and thighs. Men on the other hand struggle with belly fat.



One of the main reasons these areas are more problematic than others is the fact that there are more fat cells in that particular spot. For instance, have you ever seen someone with fat feet unless they’re morbidly obese? That’s because there are not that many fat cells in a person’s feet. Therefore, do not listen to the so called experts that try to convince you that it’s possible to target your stomach with specific exercises to reduce fat.

There is a difference between building and toning muscles and spot reduction. Utilizing targeted exercises can definitely help with building lean muscles and toning. For example, if someone was to have flabby arms, they will benefit from lifting weights; however, there will always be a certain layer of fat that cover those particular muscles.

Therefore, if your goal is to get a flat stomach that would cause people to steer, you will have to take an all-inclusive approach. You will have to do some of everything such as aerobic exercises, weight training, stomach exercises and most important, a healthy diet. Once you start eating a healthy diet, aerobic exercises are the most important because it helps to burn calories and eradicate fat.

Jogging, running and walking are my favorite exercises when it comes to burning fat and attaining a flat stomach. I my travels, I have never met one person that runs regularly that had a weight problem. In fact, a lot of running and walking is how many of the athletes today maintain such awesome abdominal muscles. If you look at the track and field stars, you will not find one with as much as a bulge in their mid-section. Most athletes in general have flat stomachs.

One of the best stomach flattening exercises will have to be running. If you’re unable to run or jog, you can walk. Running burns a lot more calories than doing sit ups or crunches. Speed to moderate walking is also a good calorie burner. In order to get a flat stomach, you will have to burn calories and lose body fat. Walking five miles a day can help you burn as many calories if you were to do over 2000 sit ups.

Do not let anyone tell you that you can achieve fabulous abs just by doing hundreds of crunches. Stay away from those expensive ab machines and rollers. Those contraptions are useless if you’re committed to doing all of the things that I’ve mentioned in this article. The only way to achieve good results is to lose weight and reduce overall body fat.
