If you were to ask anyone what their worst symptom is of all time, I bet you the majority of people will undoubtedly say nausea. It can bring dread to joys of early pregnancy. It also has the ability to make a favorite meal memorable for all the wrong reasons. Nausea can also turn a night of partying into a morning-after of kneeling in front of the toilet or bent over the bathroom sink.
However, though unpleasant, nausea and the vomit it prompts is the body’s way of purging itself. If the nausea is a result of toxins or microorganisms, stopping the body from purging itself is not smart or recommended.
No matter what the cause, nausea is always treated with the consumption of clear liquids. In fact, dehydration can cause nausea in certain people. The best thing to do is to drink small amounts of liquids often. For best results, sip broth, water, or tea. You can also suck on chopped ice or frozen herb tea. Many sports rehydration drinks are also beneficial because they replace water as well as essential body salts.
If you cannot keep down fluids, feel extremely ill, have not urinated in an eight hour period, or the nausea and vomiting continue for a couple days, please consult your physician. When something like this happens, you’re already dehydrated.
